When does a dream become a reality or when should I let it go and realise that its over? In my opinion, I’d say never. I think it’s what makes me the person I am today. To know that regardless of odds or likelihood I will always believe there is a chance to win as if I didn’t I wouldn’t bother with it. To me this is the same with Arsenal as it is on a personal level.
As there is a little bit of down time between games my mind is constantly thinking ‘what if this, and what if that?” and I have been this week speaking to a few mates who are also big football fans but for smaller clubs (one is Liverpool another United) to ask them on how they view the season, and more importantly is there still a chance?? They have pretty much laughed at me, and told me I am a dreamer or even a fool, but yet I have been working out different permutations in my mind and looking (at least twice) at the Premier League table each day, trying to work out when that time will be when we reel them in, and whomever they might be (but I am presuming Chelsea).
I am not sure about you but what I have seen in only 2 games is Man City a team who were on parity with runaway leaders Chelsea (after winning I think 11 in a row) drop 5 points. 5 points, which has now apparently ruled them out of challenging for the title if they lose to Chelsea in the next game, which to me is farcical. There is still so much football to play and in a league where even though some of the bigger sides (and I’d have to add us to that list) have faltered somewhat this season, there are still a hell of a lot of teams that are more than capable of stealing points here and there like Southampton, West Ham, Everton for example. This is not to mention the resurgence of Manchester United and Liverpool who are slowly getting their act together and the teams that will be scrapping for their lives too. For me it means the second half of the season could be somewhat different, nobody should understand this more than Arsenal fans based on last season.
I feel that any team in this league is capable of a dip. Whether that be from an influx of injuries (which has been our case), drop in form, or that its just been unlucky for them shows that at any time (and it only has to be a run of 3 to 4 matches) a team can be pulled back quite quickly. Like any ship on the sailing water they prefer it when the sea is calm. I believe we have had ours, it could be City are going through one now. But usually and this includes the team that even wins the title that at some point in the season they will have a wobble. We just need to make sure that when or if it does come we are there to close it up.

City in my opinion probably do need to start the Chelsea boat rocking in the next round of matches. They face Chelsea, so certainly there is belief there is enough time for this to come to fruition, but as I see it we have 2 results out of a possible 3 (City win or draw) that will be a positive effect on the chasers. Yes we are 13 points behind now, that could then be 10-11 points if Chelsea fail to win that match and Arsenal to win. Add another couple of dips here and there and who knows by the time Arsenal were to play Chelsea at home on April 25th we could be 6 points or so behind… Are we in it then? Where a win in that game could take us to 3 points with 4 games to play? How about now??
This season has been a roller-coaster. From the offset this season I was sure (and I still am) that this side is going to be something special. A few more steely additions for crisis times with injuries etc and a bit more belief from the players we have and we could really bring back the glory days that to me do not seem so long ago. Have we made mistakes this season? Categorically yes. Has the game on Sunday gone a long way to show we are evolving and changing our predictability? Also 100% yes. Can we still win the league? Of course we bloody can!!
In the words of John Lennon ”You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”
Keep believing Gooners… Those Chavs will wobble soon enough, and we are just coming back to form hopefully just in time….
