It was a dominant display right from the off, and a fantastic sign of things to come this season. Arsene Wenger named a fairly strong side, with a few surprise inclusions such as Emiliano Martinez and Alex Iwobi. His choices were more than vindicated over the course of the game though, with six different goalscorers finding the net in a 6-0 demolition of Ligue 1 side Lyon.
Olivier Giroud opened the scoring, knocking in a Mesut Özil free kick after some sloppy defending. He overpowered his marker, with the ball flying past Lyon shot-stopper Anthony Lopes after coming off Giroud’s shoulder. 1-0.
Moments later we doubled our lead, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain applying the finish to a well worked team goal. Aaron Ramsey fed Giroud, who played a neat ball around the corner for the Ox. He drove towards goal, before lashing a vicious strike across the keeper and into the far corner. 2-0.
Lyon were given no time to recover, as less than a minute later we made it three. It was another quick passing move, with a handful of one-touch passes culminating in a first senior goal for young Alex Iwobi. 3-0.
We scored once more before half time, Mesut Özil picking out Ramsey to prod home a well deserved goal. 4-0.

We slowed down a little in the second half, taking our foot off the gas. We couldn’t stop scoring though, and despite some sloppy buildup play, Özil able to smash home a fifth. 5-0.
There were a number of changes late in the second half, and our momentum was further lessened by the substitutes. We were still able to finish the game off in style however, with late substitute Santi Cazorla cleverly sneaking a free kick under the wall.
