Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has reiterated that the club plans to invest in the squad this summer and has stressed that Robin van Persie is “very happy in London”.
With Van Persie’s contract set to expire in 2013 the Gunners are eager to tie the prolific striker to a new deal but the Dutchman has declared that he will only begin negotiations in the summer. He basically wants to see what position the club is in and whether they will upgrade the squad to fight for top honours next season.
Hill-Wood believes that the Dutchman is keen to stay in London and they will make the necessary reinforcements this summer. One of these purchases is almost certainly to be German international Lukas Podolski, a player who the Daily Star believes to have completed a medical with the Arsenal staff on Tuesday. The Gunners are also thought to be lining up a personal transfer record fee of £30 million to sign Dortmund’s starlet Mario Gotze.
Hill-Wood said:
I think Robin and his family are very happy in London and I don’t think he is solely motivated by money as some players are.
If we find the right person for the right position we are happy to buy. We have got enough to pay anything but silly prices.
The right people for the right positions are available in the form of the German duo Podolski and Gotze, the Gunners clearly need more options and quality in these positions so it’s now down the Gunners board to sanction the purchases for the two, then Arsenal will have a formidable lineup next season.

As for Van Persie, I think he will re-sign because his family is settled here, he’s playing fantastically and will win some personal accolades this season for his performances and quite importantly he owes Arsenal a lot. This is his first injury free season since joining the club so he owes the Gunners for sticking by him, paying for his treatments and not giving up on his potential which has finally been fulfilled this season.
