We badly miss Laurent Koscielny when he’s injured, so it’s a massive boost that the Frenchman will be back for our clash with Barcelona this Wednesday, as reported by Sky Sports.
The 30-year-old has been out of action since late February, and we’ve badly missed him during his absence. Our back line looks much weaker without him in it, and our recent form really hasn’t been helped by the poor performances of Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker.
In all honesty the damage may already have been done, as we’re now out of the FA Cup and facing a real uphill battle in both the Champions League and the Premier League. It’s still going to be great to have Koscielny back though, and who knows, perhaps he could miraculously help us turn things around.
It’s unclear exactly how much of a recovery he’s really made, as he wasn’t even on the bench over the weekend. That may have just been a precaution though, and we may well see him in the starting XI against Luis Enrique’s side in midweek.
Arsenal transfer news
After a bumpy start to his Arsenal career, Koscielny has quickly evolved into one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and he’d be a massive miss for any team. We really need to find him a fitting centre-back partner, someone who compliments his abilities and at least comes close to matching his quality. But with Calum Chambers, Per Mertesacker, and Gabriel Paulista already on our books, will Arsene Wenger even be looking for a central defender this summer?
