There’s good news and bad news where Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is concerned, but unfortunately it’s mostly bad. On the one hand, the winger doesn’t need surgery for the injury suffered against Barcelona, but he is likely to miss around eight weeks of action, as reported by the BBC.
The 22-year-old collided awkwardly with Javier Mascherano during our 2-0 loss against Barcelona last week, and was very visibly in pain after the coming together. He soldiered on for a while – almost certainly unwisely – but eventually was forced off.
It was later revealed that he had extensive knee ligament damage, and he was pictured soon after walking on crutches. We all knew he was facing some serious time on the sidelines, but fingers were obviously crossed he’d be back sooner rather than later. As it stands he’ll be lucky to return before the end of the season though, and may not even be fit for this summer’s Euro 2016 Championship’s in France.
The Ox has once again endured mixed success this season, finding himself in and out of the team due to his inconsistent performances. He still appears to have a total lack of end product, and his composure in front of goal is absolutely woeful.
Although it may not have been as noticeable as the likes of Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, the Ox’s career has unquestionably been blighted by injury. He’s suffered a huge number of niggling issues, and this latest one could deal yet another blow to his development.

While we obviously want the Ox to get back to full fitness and return to the side as soon as possible, if he’s going to miss most of the campaign then it might just be best for him to miss all of it. From an Arsenal point of view, sending the Ox off to the Euros immediately after he returns from injury might not be the best idea, although the player himself will obviously be desperate to feature after missing the World Cup through injury.
