Reports in Spain indicate that FC Barcelona have given up their pursuit of Hector Bellerin because they believe the Spaniard will sign a new contract at the Emirates. The reports are published in Spanish publication Sport which claims that Barca are now looking elsewhere (via Sport).
The near-constant reports linking Hector Bellerin with a move away from the Emirates have been worrying Arsenal fans in recent months. Both Manchester City and former club FC Barcelona are the teams most heavily linked with the right-back and both clubs have a history of signing Arsenal’s best players. Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri, and Gael Clichy have all left for either one of the two teams since 2009.
Gunners fans had been fearing that Hector Bellerin would either join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City or return to FC Barcelona but now it looks like that won’t happen. Spanish publication Sport wrote a list of possible replacements for Dani Alves who left the club in the summer and while Bellerin’s name was at the top, the article explained that a deal could not happen. It claims that FC Barcelona have ‘direct information that the player will renew his contract with Arsenal within one to two weeks.’
Sport now believes that the Spanish giants are looking elsewhere for players to rival Aleix Vidal – a player who hasn’t really thrived at Camp Nou. Serge Aurier, Joao Cancelo, and Southampton’s Cedric Soares are the three players highlighted by Sport.
Hopefully, their information is correct and Bellerin really will agree to a new deal at the club within the next fortnight. The right-back is one of the best young players in the world in his position and it’s absolutely vital that the club keeps hold of him.
