Ian Wright has hit back at Mesut Özil after the German published a 700-word rant at Arsenal’s ex-pros, calling on them to “behave like legends” (via The Mirror).
The international breaks in the Premier League season can sometimes prove to be a little dull but this one has been an exception at Arsenal.
The Gunners’ Mesut Özil has been the subject of much criticism in recent weeks and decided to get his own back by publishing a 700-word post on social media.
Özil criticised the way he has been treated in the media by many ex-Arsenal pros.
“Although criticism is something that all football players have to deal with,” Özil explained. “I nevertheless expected legends to behave like legends”
Now, Gunners hero Ian Wright has hit back at the German for his outburst.

“Instead of coming out and having a go at the so called former players in respect of what they’re saying,” the ex-forward said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“We’re not talking about former players coming out and criticising a team that is charging up the league and winning leagues.
“I’d rather see Mesut Özil with his ability – and I have been on this show so many times, and I have protected him and I’ve protected Arsene Wenger – sign a contract.”
Wright raised a good point. The best way for Özil to respond to the criticism about his performance levels and commitment on the pitch would be to sign a new contract. However, the German does get more than his fair share of criticism and is far from the biggest problem at Arsenal FC right now.
