Arsenal legend Ian Wright is a big fan of Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and has urged the club to snap him up after the Reds’ Champions League hopes were dashed following a draw at Chelsea.
“Surely someone from the top 4 should go and get Skrtel ! Would love him to go to Arsenal. …” http://t.co/LUtzgKKlnZ

Skrtel is arguably Liverpool’s best central defender and after just one season in Europe’s premier club competition, it seems as though Brendan Rodgers’ men will have another long wait on their hands before they hear the infamous anthem once again.
However, after Arsene Wenger’s recent comments, Wright will be disappointed to hear that we won’t be signing a central defender this summer.

“Four is enough,” Wenger told reporters regarding our options at the heart of the defence (via BBC Sport).

The boss was of course referring to Gabriel, Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Calum Chambers who will all be looking to fight for the two positions available next season.
Wenger has never been keen on buying just for the sake of buying, and so he shouldn’t. There doesn’t seem to be options available on the market in the centre-back position capable of strengthening a top club and the insanely high fees paid by some clubs is a clear illustration of that.
Supply is low and demand is high which leads to average players such as Eliaquim Mangala and David Luiz being sold by Chelsea and Porto, respectively, for a combined fee of £82.5m (via ESPN).
As we’ve seen in 2015, once we have a settled and injury-free defence, we are capable of producing title-winning defensive performances. We have only conceded more than one goal in a league game once since New Years Day.
Other areas in our squad need attention if we’re to finally clinch the Premier League title.
