First of all I think there is a clear line that divides Arsenal fans. There can be no sitting on the fence. Either you love to see the development of young players and watch them grow into stars or you want Wenger to splash the cash and get ready made stars for the short term future. Chelsea have assembled a great team only matched by Manchester City in terms of star names. Manchester United’s defence is weak but in De Gea, they have a world class goal keeper and frightening strike force. They were willing to splash the cash to bring in Radamel Falcao and he has started to justify his price tag with really good performances.
Arsenal meanwhile have overseen the development of young players such as Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, AOC, and Szczesny, players that have either come in through the Arsenal youth squad or bought for minimal fees from other clubs. These players have failed to justify their presence in the first team apart from Aaron Ramsey. Jack Wilshere has proved to be the biggest disappointment of all.
So who should the fans blame for these players not living up to their potential? The manager or the players themselves? I believe it is the players to blame. Let us have a quick look at other clubs…when Rooney announced himself to the rest of the league against Arsenal, Fergie snapped him up for Manchester United and he has become a pivotal member of Manchester United. Same with Cristiano Ronaldo who needs no introduction and yet came to Manchester United as a raw teenager as well as Michael Carrick. These players have won everything there is to be won while playing pivotal roles.
Other players from other clubs who deserve a mention include Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and even Thierry Henry. These are players who have been instrumental to their various clubs successes all the way to their twilight years. How many fans feel like Arsenal’s young players, apart from Aaron Ramsey, will fulfill their potential and become legends with the club. .. or are they overrated.
Does buying world class players really guarantee success? The jury is still out on Mesut Ozil in some quarters although Sanchez has proved to be quite an astute buy. But let us look at the case of Radamel Falcao and Danny Welbeck. Manchester United was willing to pay a lot of money for Falcao and he is finally starting to show what world class means by gobbling up chances that fall his way. Hands up to the number of Arsenal fans who feel Welbeck will be a ruthless goal scorer even in the future! Granted he has a tremendous work rate but was bought to be a striker who scores goals when presented with chances. It beats the purpose if he is not doing just that.

Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton have shown that you do not need to spend big to fight for a place in the Champion’s League but Arsenal need to be fighting for the Premier League. So if Arsenal is to get rid of Arsene Wenger, then it will need to be ruthless and get rid of its under-performing players as well and bring in ‘world-class’ players otherwise keep Wenger and let him mould their talent as only he can. No one else will.
