Our victory over Bayern Munich this past Tuesday was unquestionably one of our best wins in a long time, and could prove hugely important to our Champions League aspirations. You could see at the end of the game how much the victory meant to the players, the manager, and the fans, and these pictures show the sheer joy that the result garnered.
It was an incredibly tough game, and we were under the cosh for large parts of it. We played the game to perfection though, and Arsene Wenger got his tactics spot on. We remained rigid and defensively stable whenever Bayern were in position, but hit the Bundesliga giants on the counter whenever possible.
Both teams threatened to score on a number of occasions, but we arguably crafted the better opportunities. The deadlock was eventually broken, when Olivier Giroud headed home from a Santi Cazorla free kick.
You could see just what it meant to him and the team, and the noise around the Emirates was deafening when the ball found the net. The game wasn’t over though, and the team had to quickly gather themselves for the restart.
The metaphorical roof really came off the Emirates when the confusion was cleared up and the fifth official raised his arm following Mesut Özil’s 93rd minute strike though, and the team’s delight at having secured the victory was more than evident.
