Record signing Mesut Özil has been named alongside Chelsea’s Eden Hazard as the best attacking midfielder in Europe for 2015, according to CIES Football Observatory.
The German star has been in fantastic form since his return from injury, and has been scoring and assisting with regularity. He hasn’t been receiving the plaudits he deserves in the media however, and has been continually slated regardless of his performances.
The stats show just how fantastic he has been however, with rigour, recovery, distribution, take ons, chance creation, and shooting all taken into account.

He’s not alone when it comes to Arsenal stars, with Santi Cazorla also named in the list at 11th. They are joined by two members of Premier League rival side Manchester City, with David Silva and surprisingly Jesus Navas included.
Navas is certainly a shock inclusion, and just goes to show that stats don’t prove everything. It’s hard to argue that the likes of Özil and Hazard belong atop the list however, as both players have been excellent.
Our form as a team for the most part has also been superb since new year, and hopefully it can continue for the remainder of the season.
