Danny Welbeck has been absent from the team since the end of last year, with the deadline day signing struggling to overcome a thigh problem. The former Manchester United man is close to a full return however, with Arsene Wenger confirming the news on Arsenal.com.
The 24-year-old has taken longer than originally expected to make his return to action, but providing there are no further set backs should be in line for an appearance against the Spuds.
“Welbeck is very close. He is really, really, really nearly there. He will be available for the Tottenham game,” he said.
We haven’t really missed the pacey striker hugely, with Olivier Giroud showing just why he deserves to be the first choice forward at Arsenal. With a number of players leaving the club on loan this January however, it is vitally important that Welbeck continues his recovery and remains fit.
We are once again one or two injuries away from a crisis, and if Giroud were to suffer another serious injury then we could be faced with some serious selection problems.
