Arsene Wenger has revealed Alexis Sanchez will miss Friday’s Premier League opener against Leicester City due to injury.
The Chilean only returned to training last week and was therefore left out of the side to face Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday.
It may now be a while before Arsenal fans get to see him in action again, with Wenger telling a pre-match press conference he is unsure when he will return.
“He has a little abdominal strain he did on Sunday morning. He had the scan two days ago. I don’t know how long he is out,” he said via The Telegraph.
“He is focused. When you have treatment on the medical bench it’s not easy, but he is focused.”
Sanchez also addressed speculation that Paris Saint-Germain are keen on the Chilean, claiming he has had no contact from the French champions recently.

“It’s been a long time since I spoke to [PSG owner] Nasser Al-Khelaifi,” he added. “There has been no contact from PSG. They are looking for Mbappe, that’s that I read in the papers.”
Arsenal also have other injury concerns ahead of the Leicester game with Wenger confirming Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil remain doubts, having also missed the Community Shield.
Defender Per Mertesacker could also miss out after having stitches in a head wound, that forced him off during Sunday’s win over Chelsea.
