Arsenal chase signing of £7m-rated Lille star to solve problem position
The England international has been out of action for quite some time with a knee injury (via Arsenal.com), and at this stage it doesn’t look like he will be back before the end of the season.
Wenger was speaking in a press conference ahead of our final Premier League game, and suggested that not only was Welbeck unlikely to make the FA Cup final, but that he could miss England’s next set of fixtures as well.
“Players back [for West Brom]? Danny Welbeck no,” Wenger said, as quoted by the Mirror.
“If he is not available for the FA Cup final then I can’t see him being available for England.”

The former Man United man has proved a decent acquisition this season, and was hugely important to the side when Olivier Giroud was out injured (via the Daily Mail). He hasn’t hit the goalscoring heights many would have liked, but he has been an excellent squad player and a decent option both up front, and out wide.
We have struggled to break teams down recently, with our lack of pace and width a noticeable problem. Wenger’s propensity to play a central midfielder out wide on the right has made us slow and narrow, and with Theo Walcott still on the fringes, Welbeck’s absence has been noticed.
