Laurent Koscielny was withdrawn from the game against Olympiacos with a hamstring injury, and was replaced by Per Mertesacker, as reported by the Daily Mail.
A return date is yet to be announced, but the Frenchman will almost certainly miss our clash with Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend – certainly a huge blow.
Gabriel Paulista appears to be in Arsene Wenger’s plans this season, with he and Koscielny a potential long term partnership. It’s a partnership that is going to have to wait however, as this weekend we are more likely to see Gabriel and Mertesacker lining up.
While certainly a problem, this isn’t the end of the world. We have three quality centre-backs, even if Mertesacker isn’t a fan favourite. It would be a real blow if Koscielny were to miss any significant length of time though, as we will be left with Calum Chambers as our only back up.
The giant German could be in for a tricky game this weekend, with United boasting a number of pacy players capable of exploiting his lack of said pace. Anthony Martial is in fantastic form, and Mertesacker will have to be at his best to deal with the Old Trafford new boy.

At least we still have Gabriel, who has shown he has all the qualities to thrive in the Premier League. Hopefully he can put in a performance this weekend and help us bounce back from our crushing defeat against Olympiacos.
