Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Bacary Sagna will be out for the next three weeks with a hamstring injury.
The Frenchman’s injury is a blow, but Carl Jenkinson is waiting in the wings for more opportunities so this weekends trip to West Bromwich Albion will provide a platform for the youngster to impress.
The Arsenal manager revealed Sagna’s injury update in his pre-match press conference:
Sagna will not be fit. He has a hamstring injury and will be out for 3 weeks. Its always a blow because he Sagna is a complete defender. For us it is a handicap but Jenkinson is growing as well as a player.
The Gunners will miss the 30-year-old’s experience and consistency that has seen him become a vital cog in the backline this season.
There is one slight upside to it all as the timing is pretty decent for a three week injury. After the trip to the Hawthorns this Sunday there will be an international break which will allow the Frenchman to recover in plenty of time. But still a massive blow for the weekend.
Time to step it up Jenko! Get well soon Sagna.
