We are in need of reinforcements this summer, with a striker high on our list of priorities. Juventus’ Fernando Llorente has emerged as a somewhat surprising candidate, and Arsenal officials have now met with his agent to discuss a move, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport.
The report claims we are plotting an £8.5m bid for the Spanish striker, which is actually slightly worrying. Despite the fact that we are badly lacking in the striking department – with Olivier Giroud our only recognised out and out centre-forward – Llorente arguably isn’t of the calibre we require.
We are building a squad capable of challenging for the highest honours, and need players of the highest quality to do so. Llorente certainly doesn’t fall into that bracket, and may not even get anywhere near our starting XI. He doesn’t bring anything to the table that our own Olivier Giroud doesn’t already offer, and there are far better strikers out there we should be targeting.

The fact that he’s already 30-years-old makes him an even less enticing prospect, and we really shouldn’t be wasting money on him.
We may have suffered a huge blow in our hunt for Karim Benzema (via the Express), but that doesn’t mean we should settle for a second rate striker.
