Alex Iwobi has been named the Youth Player of the Year at the annual Confederation of African Football awards.
The Nigeria international enjoyed a stunning year in 2016, forcing his way into the Arsenal first-team as well as making the breakthrough at international level.
Iwobi has been a virtual ever-present for the Gunners this season, scoring three times, including the second in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day.

Iwobi has also impressed for Nigeria scoring his first ever international goal in December in their World Cup qualifier against Zambia.
The Arsenal star was not the only Premier League player to scoop a prize with Kelechi Iheanacho named Most Promising Talent of the Year.

Meanwhile, Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez was named African Player of the Year, ahead of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in second and Liverpool forward Sadio Mane third.
The award is a deserved accolade for Iwobi who has impressed in north London and quickly cemented his place in the team, despite only turning 20 last May.
