Alex Iwobi has revealed which young Arsenal star he expects to break into the first-team next, tipping Chuba Akpom to make the grade.
Iwobi has forced his way into Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans, making seven appearances in all competitions for the Gunners so far this campaign.
The youngster also made his full international debut for Nigeria on Sunday, scoring in a 2-1 win in Zambia to underline his rise to prominence.
Iwobi believes Akpom will be the next to follow in his footsteps and make an impression on Wenger’s first team.
“I don’t really know who to expect, because you never know who will come through. But I’d say Chuba Akpom will be the next to join,” he told FourFourTwo.
“He and Glen Kamara are probably my best friends at the club. I’ve known Chuba since I was about three years old – I used to play Sunday League with him for Rippleway in Newham, and now we’re still at Arsenal together.

“Glen came at U16s and he’s just a joker of the team – I’m really close with him.”
Akpom who has recently celebrated his 21st birthday has been sent out on loan by Arsenal having spells at Brentford, Coventry, Nottingham Forest and Hull. He helped the Tigers gain promotion to the Premier League last season before returning to the Gunners.
The youngster has made just one appearance for Arsenal this season, as a late substitute in the EFL Cup over Nottingham Forest but will be hoping he can use Iwobi as inspiration as to what he can achieve at the Emirates.
