We have been heavily linked with a £25m move for FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez recently (via the Daily Star), with Arsene Wenger apparently looking to ease the burden on the shoulders of Olivier Giroud. The 28-year-old is clearly a fan of the club, and talked up a move to Arsenal in a recent interview, as reported by Portuguese publication A Bola.
Martinez has been prolific in the Primeira Liga, and regularly scores 30 goals a season. He is relatively unproven outside of FC Porto however, and is yet to be tested in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
He could still prove an excellent acquisition though, and would at the very least offer some competition for Giroud.
Speaking to A Bola, Martinez responded to recent positive comments made by Thierry Henry. He spoke extremely highly of Arsenal, perhaps suggesting that he may well be keen on a move to the Premier League.
“For me, there are two players who I have always admired: Ronaldo, the phenomenon, and Thierry Henry. It leaves me very happy that he [Henry] made those comments,” he said.

“Arsenal are a great team, in one of the world’s best leagues, and I’m waiting to find out what my future holds. I still don’t know, but the day when I find out is getting closer. For now, I’m focused on the Copa America.”
There are arguably better options we could be targeting, but Martinez certainly wouldn’t be a bad buy. He is perhaps a little too similar to Giroud, but he has a far better goalscoring record than the Frenchman.
