Joel Campbell is a young striker/winger who must be wondering whether he really has a future at Arsenal. What is more perplexing is the fact that Wenger turned to young inexperienced striker Chuba Akpom in the game against Southampton instead of giving Campbell a chance to shine. Granted Akpom has a lot of potential but so does Campbell although by the look of things Wenger does seem to have his own reservations. So from the prediction before the game that Campbell might start against Southampton, he did not even get a look in. That has to hurt.
Unlike Lukas Podolski, Campbell has time on his side but he requires regular football to avoid stunting his own growth and not realizing his potential. Another loan spell will be futile as he already proven himself time and time again. If he was to leave, he would need to go to a team where he would feel appreciated and thus flourish. Carlos Vela needed to leave Arsenal to show everyone what he was capable of and after he finally did, he has really produced a string of performances that have made people sit up and take notice.
Campbell is running out of time to prove how good he really is. Arsenal have the FA cup coming up against Hull City and Wenger usually turns to his auxiliary strikers in the FA cup as well as League cup. Wenger has already said he will make some changes to the team after the Southampton loss including dropping Szczesny after his horror show. If Campbell does not get playing time soon especially in the FA cup, then he really needs to start considering his future.
Every Arsenal fan is rooting for Joel Campbell but unless Wenger gives him a chance, he will not succeed at Arsenal. The question is whether he is willing to wait for his chance not matter how long it takes.
