Jack Wilshere looks set to miss more of the season than originally thought, with the young midfielder suffering a setback on the road to recovery, as reported by Goal.
The 23-year-old injured his ankle in pre-season training, and has been absent for our first few games of the campaign. Arsene Wenger originally believed he’d return after the international break to face Stoke City, but his recovery has been slower than expected, and Wenger doesn’t know when he’ll return.
“I expected Jack to be back and available and it’s slower than expected,” Wenger said (via Goal).
“He had a little setback, I don’t know quite what. I have to talk to my medical staff.”
Injuries have plagued Wilshere’s career and have prevented him from blossoming into the player his potential suggested he could be. This setback is just the latest in a long line of incidents, and few will be surprised by the news – although many will no doubt be disappointed.

After an excellent end to the 2014/15 campaign – not to mention a superb pre-season – the fans were hopeful Wilshere would enjoy a relatively injury free and successful 15/16. It’s the same old story though, and just when we think he’s ready to step up, he gets sidelined with injury once again.
It would be a blow for both club and country if Wilshere were unable to overcome his injury issues, so hopefully our medical team can ensure this is the last time. Wishful thinking, I know.
