The 22-year-old had a phenomenal World Cup in Brazil, and hopes were high that he would be able to make an impact at the Emirates. He was unable to recreate the form shown in South America though, and struggled for game time in the first half of the season.
He was shipped off on loan to Villarreal in January, where he enjoyed a decent spell in La Liga. The Costa Rican’s performances have clearly attracted the attention of a number of suitors, with the Metro claiming David Moyes’ Sociedad side are the front-runners for his signature.
