Laurent Koscielny has offered up a very honest assessment of our continual falling at the first hurdle in the Champions League.
Arsenal transfer news
Once again we were knocked out on away goals in the last-16 in Europe’s elite competition but this time at the hands of a side we were certainly expected to beat.
Whereas on previous occasions our losses were to so-called giants in Bayern Munich and AC Milan this time we crashed out to Ligue 1’s AS Monaco.
But again Arsenal succumbed to another ‘glorious defeat’ in the second leg following a lackadaisical performance in the first leg, a feature Koscielny says we have to rid ourselves of.
“We say same thing every year,” said Koscielny, according to journalist Matt Spiro.

“Our first game is catastrophic. We have to put it right… play well in two games.”
His words have been echoed by the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Per Mertesacker in defeat but the frustrating fact is the same sort of rhetoric keeps being said year-on-year but the same thing keeps happening.
Alas, we won’t conquer Europe this season but at least it still means we might have enough gas left in the tank to try for the most improbably double ever.
