Arsenal’s Bernd Leno has claimed that the club is eager to secure a piece of silverware this season despite the managerial changes (via Football.London).
It feels like a lot longer than 9 months but that’s how long it has been since Arsenal were in the Europa League final in Baku.
It was a chance for Champions League qualification and silverware that the Gunners ultimately squandered.
Now, the man who watched on from the bench as Arsenal conceded four goals to Chelsea has said that the club is eager to go one step further this season.
“In the Europa League and FA Cup we have so many difficult games, so many big games because we saw last season that in the Europa League quarter-finals and semi-finals you get Champions League teams,” Bernd Leno said in an interview.
“They are all playing for the title and the final was Arsenal against Chelsea [last season], so it was a very, very big game.
“We want to have this final again and also in the FA Cup. Everybody told me that the FA Cup final at Wembley is unbelievable with the atmosphere and it is also a trophy, a title and we are looking forward to playing these games.
“Hopefully we can win a title this season.”
Arsenal’s best chance of silverware this season is probably in the Europa League. Manchester United, Sevilla, and AFC Ajax are Arsenal’s biggest rivals for that title but all three are weaker than the Atletico Madrid and Chelsea sides that Arsenal have met in the last few seasons.
