Liverpool have admitted they have received and rejected an offer from the Gunners for striker Luis Suarez, while Arsene Wenger has reassured fans they are working behind the scenes on a spectacular signing.
Reports have been heating up over the 26-year-old Uruguay centre foward who has been in devastating form since arriving from Ajax in 2011, with the media speculating that a bid had been rejected by the Reds from Arsenal, however skeptics felt there was little substance in the rumours.
Now Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has confirmed they rejected a bid from Wenger’s side and have received interest from Real Madrid for their star frontman.
Espn FC reported that he said:
We had an offer which is fairly public from Arsenal. We said no to that offer, and as far as we’re concerned he turns up for training when he’s due back, and we’ll move forward on that basis.
I’ve heard him say it would great to have an opportunity to play for Arsenal and likewise Real Madrid, but he certainly hasn’t called me up and said he wants to leave. We get offers for lots of our players at different times. Unless we get to a situation where that player absolutely doesn’t want to be here and we don’t want him to be here then that’s a different kettle of fish.

Right now we’d love to see Luis put on a Liverpool shirt for this season and beyond and we hope that once he gets back things will settle down.
This is an ambitious young player. He’s talked in the media about wanting to play in the Champions League and all these things. It’s our job to convince Luis that this is the right place to achieve those things.
It seems that Wenger is fact favouring signing Suarez over Higuain whose recent rumours seems to have gone cold of late. Suarez is an established talent in England and is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, but his behavior is a real worry. He will be suspended for the opening six matches of the season after his biting incident, does Arsenal want a player of his type? Higuain seems a very decent alternative but he could take time to adapt to the English game.
Despite some recent worries that Arsenal may not splash out this summer, Wenger has confirmed the club are working behind the scenes to secure some signings but nothing can be announced just yet.
He reportedly said while on the Asia pre-season tour:
You want me to announce a spectacular signing but I can’t.
But we are working behind the scenes to strengthen the squad.
Personally I think I would prefer Higuain, hopefully Madrid can acquire Suarez and we can bring in the Argentine. It is a difficult decision, but if Arsenal decide to bring in Suarez it would be a very ruthless move indeed and signal a real intent to battle for the title next season. He was after all the runner-up for the golden boot last season with 23 goals.
