Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher has revealed that watching Alexis Sanchez upsets him due to his former side missing out on the Chilean superstar last summer, he told Sky Sports.
The Reds were desperate to include Alexis in the deal which took Luis Suarez to Barcelona (via Daily Express), but with modern football dictated by player’s choices, our top scorer this season chose to come to us instead.
Alexis has been one of the standout Premier League players this campaign, and after scoring 24 goals in all competitions, Carragher can’t help but feel that Liverpool are missing a player of his calibre.
Brendan Rodgers decided to splash the finances received from the Suarez deal on the likes of Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli – the less said about them the better.

“He’s predominantly been playing wide left and you think of Thierry Henry and what he went on to achieve at Arsenal,” the former Liverpool defender compared.

“He got 26 goals in his first season as a centre forward. Sanchez has done it from the left-hand side and I think he’s perfectly suited to our league.
“I’m still sick Liverpool never got him.”
Upon reflection, Alexis clearly made the correct decision, and despite Rodgers dismissing his choice as one inspired by location (via The Evening Standard), our chances of success were always higher than Liverpool’s.
The foundations are laid at our club for success and Alexis clearly recognised that. While you would also expect constant Champions League football and the chance to play with the likes of Mesut Özil to have enticed him.
Trophies are the target of every top player and Alexis has the chance to lift one in his first season against Aston Villa in the FA Cup final next week.
