Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has been a pundit since retiring from football, and has given his predictions ahead of the 2015/16 season (via talkSPORT). He believes we will finish third once again this year, and has generally gone for some pretty safe and boring predictions.
As last year’s champions, Chelsea are obviously the team to beat. Murphy believes Jose Mourinho’s side will finish in top spot once again, but hopefully our victory over the Blues in the Community Shield is a sign of things to come.
Manchester City have arguably rather generously been given second spot, despite the fact that they’ve lost some big names. They have also signed the likes of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph, and will be hoping to dethrone Chelsea.
We finished third last year, but were really quite unlucky to do so. Our slow start to the season cost us, and our form in 2015 really deserved more. We’ve carried that form into pre-season though, and hopefully we can continue in that vein when the season begins. If we can consistently perform to that level throughout the season, then it would be a huge surprise to see us anywhere other than first.
Manchester United round off the Champions League spots, while Liverpool and Tottenham get fifth and sixth place respectively.

With the way we’ve been playing recently, you’d hope we can prove Murphy wrong. Third is the least we should be aiming for, and with our current squad we are more than capable of challenging for the title.
