Arsenal’s David Ospina has admitted that he doesn’t expect to stay at his current side Napoli but his current manager has suggested otherwise (via Football Italia).
David Ospina is still technically an Arsenal player and he could become an important figure at the club when Petr Cech retires at the end of the season.
The Colombian international is currently on loan at the Italian side Napoli and it has been hinted that he could return to the Emirates when his deal expires.
Ospina has a clause in his Napoli contract which automatically activates an option to buy after he plays a certain number of matches.
There was a suggestion that the Serie A side were looking to avoid triggering that clause after dropping Ospina from the team, something which the 30-year-old certainly buys into.
“I knew this might happen,” Ospina admitted to Radio Blu.

“My current situation is that I am on loan for this season and there’s a clause based on the number of games, so if I play regularly, it’ll become an automatic purchase.
“When the situation doesn’t depend on me, all I can do is wait for the decisions to be made by Napoli.
“I want to continue playing in Europe, although a return to South American football is always a possibility. I am open for a move closer to home.”
However, Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has flipped this story on its head when he claimed Ospina will stay at the Serie A side next season whether the clause is triggered or not.

It’s an interesting story and it could affect Arsenal’s goalkeeping options next season. Petr Cech is retiring in a few months and it was unclear who would remain at the Emirates as Bernd Leno’s backup. If David Ospina is to stay in Italy then it seems as if Emi Martinez will be Leno’s understudy.
