Arsenal’s injury list is looking incredibly depressing. We now have so many players out injured we could even have a very competitive (hypothetical) eleven on eleven match.
After Saturday’s 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion another three further players have picked up knocks – that’s seven injuries in the space of seven days. That’s incredible. Even by Arsenal’s standard. A terrific effort.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal are all doubts ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League tie at home to Southampton, and the trio join Mikel Arteta, Yaya Sanogo, Mesut Ozil, Wojciech Szczesny and Jack Wilshere on the sidelines. Theo Walcott is still struggling with a groin injury picked up while on duty with England, while long term absentees Mathieu Debuchy and Mesut Ozil make the cut. Youngster Isaac Hayden slots in alongside Monreal, while David Ospina and Abou Diaby make the injured bench.
Here’s how the two teams could lineup:
- Recently departed Arsenal star reveals he’s living his ‘dream’ at new club
- Mesut Ozil remains defiant over future but slams Arsenal for lack of loyalty
- Juventus to make swoop for Arsenal summer transfer target in January
The recent trio of Gibbs, Monreal and The Ox face tests tomorrow ahead of Wednesday’s tie so we will find out the extent of their knocks soon, while Szczesny’s pelvis injury sustained against Manchester United has kept him off the training ground. He could be in line for a start on Wednesday after over a week of rest however.
