We have recently been linked with highly rated Nigerian youngster Kelechi Nwakali, with the 17-year-old revealing his adoration for Arsenal (via the Metro).
Manchester City originally looked favourites to land his signature, with his brother already on the books with the Citizens (via the Manchester Evening News).
We look to have taken a commanding lead in the race for the teen star however, with his agent claiming that he’d been in touch with Arsenal representatives, as reported by the Metro.
He stressed that no bid has been made yet, but it certainly seems as though we’re in the driving seat.
“We have been in touch with Arsenal,” Nwakali’s agent Klay Ekeocha said.
“There has been no feedback [or bid] as yet though.”

Nwakali is still somewhat raw, but he was named MVP at the recent U17s World Cup in Chile. The attacking midfielder is unquestionably one of the brightest young talents in his age bracket, and there is nowhere better for him to develop further than Arsenal.
As the Metro reports, he believes we play the best football in the world, and he clearly wants to be a part of that.
Arsenal transfer news
Wenger obviously needs to be targeting players who can make an immediate impact at the club as well, but he can’t abandon his stance on youth. We haven’t had nearly enough players come up through the youth ranks in recent years, despite being renowned for our academy. This is something that needs to change, and bringing players like Nwakali to the club is an excellent way to remedy the problem.
