Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand rates Swansea defender Ashley Williams extremely highly, and can’t believe we haven’t made a move for the Welsh international in recent years.
Ferdinand took to Twitter to praise the 31-year-old, and claims Arsenal or Liverpool should have moved for Williams instead of the other defenders that were signed.
Just watchin the Wales boys. how Arsenal or Lfc haven’t gone for Ashley Williams last few yrs is beyond me-better than what they have bought

Williams is unquestionably a talented defender, and he is the type of centre-back who throws his body on the line for the team. A couple of years ago he would have been an excellent signing, as we were badly short at the back in both numbers and quality.
With Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, and Gabriel at our disposal now however, we have three quality centre-backs. Not to mention Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy, and Nacho Monreal, who are also capable of doing a job (although you wouldn’t know from Chambers’ performance against Liverpool).

The Swans captain is an excellent defender, but I doubt many Arsenal fans would mind if we left this one for Liverpool.
