Martin Keown has said that he doesn’t think Arsene Wenger can trust Mesut Ozil anymore after the Germans repeated links with a move away (via The Mirror).
It is becoming a little strange to see Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil almost as bit-part players at the Emirates right now.
The pair have been the two most important people on the pitch in the last three years but with both men’s contracts set to expire at the end of the season, it seems that Arsene Wenger is planning for life without them.
Neither player started in last week’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea and Mesut Ozil was left on the pitch for much of last night’s game, despite returning to training last week.
Now, Arsenal legend Martin Keown has claimed that Arsene Wenger no longer trusts Mesut Ozil on the pitch.

“Of the two players, Ozil is the one I wouldn’t trust as much mentally,” Keown told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I believe he’s not playing tonight because the gaffer really can’t trust him anymore.
“I think it’s a huge story that Ozil doesn’t play tonight.
“If you look at their pre-seasons, Ozil wasn’t in the German squad in the summer, he came back on the very first day of pre-season, and didn’t then start the season, there was a bit of suspicion around him.
“Last year he went missing for a couple of months and I think that’s his tactic in terms of getting away from the football club.
“I don’t know – but I have a feeling that he’s going to take his reliability away from selection.”
This was always a possibility with the two players refusing to sign new deals at the club and it causes a headache for Arsene Wenger. However, the rest of the team are performing well on the pitch so if Sanchez and Ozil aren’t going to contribute then they can stay on the bench. It’s a World Cup year and both players will be eager to prove their fitness.
