Match: Arsenal v Sporting CP
Stadium: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (GMT): 8 Nov 20:00
Arsenal needed a win to secure passage into the knockout stages of the Europa League but it didn’t seem to show in their performance.
The Gunners failed to create any real opportunities in the first half with the major talking point being the injury sustained by Danny Welbeck. The Englishman went down before the half-hour mark with a nasty ankle injury and could be out for some time.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replaced Welbeck and the Gabon international was on the end of the best opportunities for the Gunners. Unfortunately for Unai Emery, his star striker couldn’t find the back of the net with any of them.
There was another late one for Aubameyang in the aftermath of a red card for Sporting’s Jeremy Mathieu but it went untaken.
