This was a match which felt like the Arsenal of last season as we watched a Gunners side which really struggled away from home.
The Gunners’ lack of creativity was on display from the early minutes but Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang combined well to produce a couple of decent opportunities.
They went untaken with the opening goal coming just after the interval. Granit Xhaka failed to clear a simple corner at the front post as the home side regained possession and found an unmarked Declan Rice who stroked the ball home.
The Gunners pressed forward in search of an equalising goal and produced a couple of decent chances which went untaken.
