Matchday: Team News – Player Ratings – Match Highlights
Match: Arsenal v Sevilla
Stadium: Emirates Stadium, London
Kick-Off (GMT): Sun 30th July 16:20
Both Arsenal and Sevilla opened up the annual tournament with victories on Saturday and today the Emirates Cup winner will come from one of these two sides. The Gunners took apart Benfica 5-2 while Sevilla overcame RB Leipzig 1-0. A draw between the two sides today would give Arsenal their fifth cup win because of their goal difference, so the Spanish side have to go for the win.
Although not a competitive meeting, the two teams last met back in 2007 in the Champions League group stages, sharing a win apiece – but both sides have changed dramatically in the last 10 years.
Sevilla won the Europa League three times in a row between 2014 – 2016 and the Gunners will be wary of the quality the La Liga side possess. This could be a great test for Wenger’s men as the season draws nearer. Fans however have every right to feel encouraged with Arsenal holding a pre-season record of 4 wins and 1 loss so far.
Star summer signing Alexandre Lacazette was among the substitutes yesterday so it’s likely he will get a starting spot this afternoon along with other big names like Petr Cech and Mesut Ozil.
