Every Arsenal fan can agree that it was great to see Jack Wilshere getting his first Gunners start in more than a year on Wednesday night.
It wasn’t the most exciting game but Wilshere playing a full 90 minutes will be just as pleasing to some as the fact that Arsenal progressed to the next round of the Carabao Cup.
Wilshere put in a very good performance on the night and now, captain Per Mertesacker has praised the midfielder’s hard work in coming back fit and strong.
“It was very good to have him back out there,” Mertesacker chimed.

“You can see that he’s getting more comfortable with his position now. He’s brave now and he trusts his body. That’s the most important thing, that he’s capable of playing 90 minutes.
“He will just grow with that and he was vocal as well, which was important for us, especially at the end.
“He kept the ball well in tight situations and to come out of that is vintage Jack. That’s what we want to see from him in the future here at Arsenal.”
It was a pleasing performance from Jack Wilshere. He was excellent in the first-half but did show signs of tiring in the second which must be down to match fitness. Overall, the Englishman can be pleased with his comeback and it seems that his teammates are too.
