We took an early lead through a Santi Cazorla penalty and Olivier Giroud doubled the advantage just before the break. Palace did respond with a late consolation courtesy of Glenn Murray in the fourth minute of stoppage time and the forward was also close to earning his side a drawn after his header struck the post.
The German international revealed that his team were given a bit of a warning not to switch off, having come close to dropping points at the end.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, he said:
At the end they tried to put us under some pressure and get some strikers on. They nearly scored the equaliser so we were a bit lucky at the end. Overall, we are absolutely delighted with the three points and we move on.
They have pace up front and good headers of the ball too. They nearly scored in the first half and at the end they had quite a few chances.
Sometimes you lose games, especially at the end. We were lucky today but that was a bit of a warning for us not to switch off too early.

As I said, I’m absolutely delighted to take the three points.
Despite earning ourselves a healthy two goal lead in the first half, much of the second was all Crystal Palace. There were some fast breaks from Arsenal, but they were done in by near misses and some shoddy passing.
Palace got one back in the 90th and in heart-stopping fashion they nearly grabbed another in the last move of the game but they were denied by the post. Arsenal luckily walked away with all three valuable points.
For some reason Crystal Palace always seems to give the Gunners a headache and this was no exception. The Gunners had minimal possession and you’d be hard-pressed to find a player who performed well on the day, but collectively they did what was needed. We are now in third and with Saints taking on Liverpool we are likely to stay there.
What did you think of Arsenal’s win?
