Record signing Mesust Özil believes the Turkish contingency in the Premier League could soon grow, and claims there are a number of young stars with huge potential, as reported by Turkish Football.
There are very few Turkish players playing in Europe’s top leagues, although there are a few – such as Özil – of Turkish origin.
That could be about to change however, and our £42.5m man believes we could see an influx as soon as next season.
“In recent years Turkish players have come a long way. The young players have huge potential,” he said.
“They look after themselves well and are starting to prove themselves around Europe. If this continues I believe we will see more Turkish players in the Premier League next season.”
Arda Turan has in the past been linked with a move to the Premier League, although has so far chosen to remain in La Liga.

Bayer Leverkusen’s free kick specialist Hakan Çalhanoğlu has also been tipped to make the move to the Premier League, with the Emirates a potential destination.
There are currently three players of Turkish origin in the Premier League (Özil, Emre Can, and Samed Yeşil), but all three have so far opted to place their allegiances with Germany.
Turkish football has steadily been growing, and Özil may be right about a Premier League invasion. With the influence the German playmaker has, we may also have the edge when it comes to attracting new young talent from Turkey too.
