Mesut Ozil will wear Arsenal’s number 10 shirt next season after the departure of Jack Wilshere (via Arsenal.com).
It’s something which Mesut Ozil has clearly wanted for some time but finally, five whole years after he signed for the club, he has the shirt number he wants.
Mesut Ozil has worn number 10 throughout his career but was forced to wear number 11 at the Gunners.
Many expected that to change once Jack Wilshere’s departure from the club was confirmed and today, the news has been announced by the club.
“It has never been a secret how special this number is to me,” Ozil said of the number switch
“My childhood idol Zinedine Zidane wore this number and it is still the most characteristic one for the playmaker position. I’m looking forward to putting it on for the first time at Arsenal after the summer break!”

Ozil is one of a number of key players to switch numbers this summer with Petr Cech, Hector Bellerin and Mohamed Elneny all moving to lower digits. It might take some time to get used to all of these changes but Mesut Ozil will surely be pleased by this news.
