Mesut Özil has been unplayable this season, and has continuously impressed in an Arsenal shirt. He has assisted in almost every Premier League game so far this season, and continued that trend with a pair of assists against Manchester City in our 2-1 win this past Monday night.
Before the game the German already had 13 assists, bringing his total post-game to an impressive 15. This is four goals more than the entire Chelsea team, and three more than Manchester United.

While still impressive, it’s hardly surprising that the former Real Madrid star has amassed more assists than a struggling Chelsea team. Manchester United have been flirting with the top four this season however, and you’d expect their stats to be far better.
This just goes to show how exceptional Özil has been this season, although it’s not like we really needed telling. The 27-year-old is in the form of his life at the moment, and looks set to break Thierry Henry’s Premier League assist record – currently standing at 20 assists in one season (via the Mirror).

While the whole team deserves credit, Özil is arguably the catalyst that has turned us into real title contenders this season. Our win over Manchester City puts us in a great position as far as the title is concerned, and we now just have to make sure we maintain this form for the remainder of the season – as surely Leicester City are going to drop off at some point?
