Michael Ballack has suggested that Mesut Özil will snub foreign and domestic interest in order to renew his contract at Arsenal. The former Chelsea and Germany midfielder thinks that London life and the football club is a good fit for Özil whose current deal expires in 2018 (via Sport Witness).
After a brief break for Arsenal’s collapse on the pitch against Hull and Chelsea, we’re back to the ongoing contract negotiations with the club’s two key players. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil are still yet to agree to new deals and with both players’ contracts expiring in 2018, time is ticking.
Former Germany and Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has weighed in with his two cents on the issue and said that he believes Özil will stay at the Emirates.
“Mesut Ozil is an outstanding footballer,” Ballack told Bild in an interview. “Many clubs like him. But he knows that he enjoys a very high place at Arsenal. He lives in London, one of the most beautiful cities ever.
“To this end, Arsenal is a club that has an incredible impact on the world. If you are a top player in England, the cult around you is bigger than in Germany. You are treated more respectfully, especially. These are all reasons for an extension.”
So, Ballack thinks that Arsenal and Özil are a good fit but the former Bayern did give a suggestion who he should join if he ever wanted to leave. With the match just a week away, it’s no surprise who he said.

“But if he could win something big, the chance at Bayern is, in my opinion, bigger,” Ballack claimed.
Arsenal take on Bayern Munich in under a week in what will be the first leg of a must-win tie for Arsene Wenger. Hopefully, Mesut Özil will show up at the Allianz Arena and show Ballack and Bayern what they are missing.
