Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mikel Arteta has returned to full Arsenal training and could be about to be offered a new deal.

The Spaniard will still not be available for three weeks as he tries to get back to full match fitness.

However, his return could provide a major boost as we head into the last few months of the season with Arteta likely to be fresh and raring to go after sitting on the sidelines for almost five months.
The club captain picked up a calf injury against Borussia Dortmund in November and has suffered a number of setbacks including the removal of a bone spur on his ankle which ruled him out for three months in January.

Wenger also revealed in his pre-West Ham press conference that the midfielder is likely to be offered a new deal.

Arteta’s current deal expires at the end of this season but this new contract is only likely to be only a one-year contract extension given he is 32-years-old.
