According to several web-sites including Bild.de and Sportsport.ba, Borussia Dortmund are ready to splash some of the money they received from Bayern Muenchen for Mario Goetze in order to sign Miralem Pjanić – the 23-year-old star midfielder from AS Roma.
It seems that the new manager of the Roman side Rudi Garcia doesn’t place Pjanić in his plans despite the fact the Bosnian playmaker was one of the best players last season.
What sounds unbelievable in all reports that are surrounding Pjanić is the fee that Borussia Dortmund are going to pay – 15 million euros. He is an extremely talented player that already has experience of playing in the Champions’ League.
He was only 20 when he knocked out Real Madrid in the First Knockout Stage with the late equalizer at the Santiago Bernabeu that sent Lyon to the quarterfinals and he has been part of the spine (Begović-Spahić-Pjanić-Džeko) of the Bosnian national team for a while. Roma signed him for 11 million euros from Lyon during their ambitious project of becoming ‘Little Barcelona’ under the command of Luis Enrique but it turned out to be a fiasco as the Italian outfit didn’t create any significant results despite changing managers.
One of the reasons why Pjanić – who only recently confessed he had agreed terms with Arsenal back then, but his father decided that Miralem was to go to Roma – might leave because of his attitude after the Italian Cup Final loss to Lazio in May. They won 1:0 thanks to the goal of Senad Lulić, Pjanić’s compatriot. Pjanić said that if Roma had to lose he was happy his compatriot and friend Lulić scored which – to put it mildly – didn’t please Roma fans. Just imagine that, say, Aaron Ramsey said the same thing about Gareth Bale’s goal after we lost the North London Derby in March and multiply the rage of an average Gooner with that hypothetical statement times 1,000.

If Arsenal really want to add more creativity to the team, Pjanić would fit the bill as he is young, extremely talented, experienced at the highest level and, what might be a plus in Wenger’s eyes, learned his trade in France while playing for Metz and Lyon. Furthermore, for 15 million euros, he might turn out to be a bargain! Personally, I was glad when Pjanić didn’t join Arsenal a few years ago as he was too much of raw talent for the Gunners at the time. Now, after he has added more maturity to his game, we might go after him as Rosicky will not get any younger and has persistent injury problems.
What do you think about Pjanić?
