The Premier League has been branded a two horse race practically from word go this season, with Chelsea and Manchester City the only teams considered for the title. Club captain Mikel Arteta believes our recent momentum will see us finish the season strongly though, as reported by Arsenal.com.
We have been somewhat erratic with our performances this season, and have struggled at times when we really should have dominated. Our recent run has seen us gather some pace however, and Arteta believes we can now kick on and end the season with a bang.
“A consistent run has been hard to come by this season, but we feel that after some really positive results, and with players like Mesut [Özil], Aaron [Ramsey] and Theo [Walcott] fully fit again, there is momentum on our side,” he said.
The Spaniard also believes the depth of the squad will be key to our success, and hailed the options available in the No.10 position. With Santi Cazorla performing so well lately, Özil may struggle to see game time centrally. To have those kinds of options however, is absolutely superb.
“Having been without him for so long, it was great to see Mesut make his comeback against Stoke and then scoring against Brighton on Sunday. I think he is probably the best player in our squad at giving the final ball to the player up front,” he continued.
“But then, it is also true that when Santi has played in the No 10 role recently he been fantastic – particularly in the win against Manchester City.
“When he was moved centrally a few months ago, his form increased by 100 per cent. He likes to get involved in the game, he has a good range of passing and he creates opportunities – and his work rate is very important as well.

“We saw that at the Etihad, where he was chasing back, winning the ball and retaining possession under pressure in tight areas. That is very important in big games.”
We still need to make sure we take it one game at a time, and concentrate on regaining our place in the top four. Our recent form has given us a lot of confidence though, and it’s fantastic to see so many of our key players returning from injury at the right time.
