Nacho Monreal has claimed that Arsenal pair Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil are waiting for Arsene Wenger to sign a new deal before they do the same. Speaking to Goal, the left-back confirmed that he and the rest of the players are behind the boss (via Goal.com).
With each passing day, it seems more and more likely that Arsene Wenger will renew his deal at the club and remain for another season at least.
Many supporters assumed that if the Frenchman decided to stay at the club then star players Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez would leave. However, Nacho Monreal has spoken to the press and offers a different explanation.
“We, the players, are with Wenger,” Monreal confirmed.
“He has the final word and he will decide whether to continue or not because I understand that the club has made a renewal offer. So what he does will be the best thing for him and for Arsenal, for sure.
“For Arsenal as a team and as a club, ideally everyone should continue.

“But today these are the circumstances: the coach finishes his contract and has not yet communicated whether he continues or not, then there are two important players like Alexis and Mesut who finish their contracts next season and they are waiting for the coach to follow.
“It is a situation of uncertainty, and that does not help. But it is not in our hands either.”
It’s unsurprising to see that Nacho Monreal has given his support to the manager. It wouldn’t be right for a player to outwardly tell the press that they think the boss should leave. However, his comments about Sanchez and Özil are interesting. Many Arsenal fans expect the pair to leave in the summer but perhaps they aren’t giving that impression behind the scenes. We’ll just have to wait and see whether Monreal’s comments hold and truth.
