The injury problems at Arsenal don’t look set to end anytime as captain Mikel Arteta is said to be out for ‘many more weeks,’ according to the Guardian.
This assessment couldn’t be much more vague, but it does mean that Arsene Wenger may finally dive into the transfer market to sign the defensive midfielder we so desperately need.
Arteta has not played since the 2-0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund on November 26 as the 32-year-old continues to struggle with calf and ankle problems.
Wenger initially predicted the Spaniard would be out of action for three to four weeks, but that initial prognosis has proven to be way off the mark after he suffered a setback in his rehabilitation.
As is becoming an all too regular theme Arteta joins a number of key stars on the sidelines, with Mathieu Debuchy expected to be out for three months after dislocating his shoulder against Stoke City on Sunday and Danny Welbeck currently out of action with a thigh problem.
