Shkodran Mustafi has suffered a ‘severe muscle injury’ while away on international duty with the German national team (via Sport Witness).
It’s always a risk when players head off for international duty but Arsenal have been heavily hit in this league break by injuries.
Shkodran Mustafi’s setback is the biggest one with the German reportedly picking up a ‘sever muscular injury’ while on leave with the German national team.
The defender limped off during his country’s 5-1 victory over Azerbaijan as the World Cup holders finished their perfect qualification campaign with ten wins from ten.
German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemaine is the source behind the claims which have been slightly misreported in the last 24 hours.

Sport Witness reports that while some have claimed that Mustafi’s muscles were ‘shredded’ which would see the defender miss a couple of months, the truth isn’t as bad. The German is still expected to miss a few weeks.
It’s a blow to Arsenal to lose another central defender which leaves the club looking a little short at the back. Laurent Koscielny’s fitness is unreliable right now meaning that Per Mertesacker could soon be called upon in the Premier League.
