With a string of injuries crippling Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s squad, the 66-year-old Frenchman is looking to bolster his midfield when the January transfer window opens next month.
The Gunners boss is known to be a big admirer of Paris St-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot and could, according to the Daily Telegraph, make a move for the youngster in a few weeks’ time.
Rabiot is apparently fed up of having to play second fiddle to Italian Marco Verratti at the Parc des Princes and has upset trainer Laurent Blanc by saying that he wants to leave the French champions in search of regular first-team football.
Arsenal’s North London neighbours Tottenham have also expressed an interest in the French U-21 international central midfielder, with Italian Serie A side Roma also thought to be watching developments in the French capital closely as well.
Just this morning a new threat has emerged in Arsenal’s hopes of getting Rabiot to the Emirates, with radio station talkSPORT reporting that Napoli will attempt to hijack any move from the Gunners and have, according to Sky Italia already contacted the bosses at PSG to see if Rabiot is available in January.
We can see the appeal of a young player like Rabiot to Arsene Wenger, but given the fact he would probably only be used as cover for Francis Coquelin, he would find himself in the same situation he currently has at Paris when the 24-year-old French maestro is fully fit, which makes us think that a transfer to Arsenal is a non-starter given Rabiot’s appeal to other clubs.
