Arsene Wenger claims Mesut Özil has been rested regularly between games recently (via Sky Sports), which hopefully means he won’t need to miss too many matches.
The German playmaker has a famously relaxed demeanour, but it seems he’s just as laid-back off the field.
Wenger suggests that due to his natural talent, things come far more easily to our record signing. This means that training rigorously between every game isn’t quite as necessary, so Özil doesn’t need to expend so much energy.
“Mesut, I gave him a one-week holiday during the international break,” Wenger said.
“At the moment he doesn’t practise a lot, we rest him a lot between the games.
“He is a guy who once the basic fitness is there between the games, he wants to play.

“There are types of players, sometimes the most technical players, it looks like it demands less energy for them to play – it is just natural for them.”
Keeping Özil fit this season is likely to be a massive factor in the title race, as the 27-year-old has been such a key part of our success so far this season. We obviously want him available for as many games as possible, but we can’t afford to run him into the ground.
If the former Real Madrid star really can maintain the performance levels he’s been showing this season while keeping his exertions to a minimum during training, then there’s no reason to think he can’t continue to feature in almost every game.
Once a game is won Wenger can sub the World Cup winner off, but before then we need his creative genius.

Özil grabbed a goal and an assist during our clash with Bournemouth, and hopefully he’s able to continue in that trend against Newcastle, getting 2016 off to a great start.
